The COPs have adjustable sound so if he starts liking other genres then he can just adjust to his likings

I'd seriously rather buy the COPs than the Pro 900s anyday...  Tell you what give the COPs a try out with amazon, it couldn't hurt :)

I just don't think the HE-400's would provide the Bass that he is looking for at this moment in time...

Also he can take the 900's to school with him, on the bus etc... 2 Sets of pads, 2 cables, a really nice hard case. But most important they can be bought new...
I'd like to see him try and talk his mom into popping $300+ on a used set of headphones from a forum sale, I can see that not happening.

As we all have many sets of headphones, when the taste in music changes the headphones will change as well.

I'm gonna sound like your mom right now, but for the love of god do not spend anything more than 150$ on headphones just yet... to the people recommending HE-400s and Pro900s... what?! HE's just 13 years old for gods sake, you don't need 300$ headphones when you're 13.

I'm doing this for your own good. Don't waste too much money on headphones because a few weeks from now you'll want some other new and shiny thing and because you spent all your money on headphones you won't be able to afford it. That's exactly how I was when I was your age, so prioritize, and see if you REALLY want 200$ headphones. I honestly don't think it's worth it.

I say buy Q40s or or XB500s and be happy with it.

Very true the HE400s don't have the insane amounts of bass and yeah def not protable lol but hes got the V moda's which are pretty satisfying with EDM but honestly in the long run the HE400s would benefit him a lot more

Also Shuman0101 AGREED

Err...I'll be the insane one here and suggest against using all of your $500. While, yes, there are discernable differences between a DT770 and HE400, for someone that's just starting out in the hobby, it's a bit like taking a 21 year old and giving that 21 year old a glass of thousand dollar wine. Sure, he'll appreciate it, but not for its true merits.

Also, I can 99% guarantee your mother will not let you spend all your money on a pair of headphones and an amp. The HE400 seems to be a good option for you (can't say for certain because I haven't heard it, only its bigger sibling), but since you're 13 and it'll probably be next to impossible for you to get more money in the foreseeable future, I'd go with something lower end. I haven't heard the COP either, but I have heard the DT770 and I didn't mind it for the stuff I usually listen to (indie folk), so the midrange is acceptable. There was a healthy amount of bass too, of course. Although I'd buy used. $200 is way too much. $120 is much more reasonable.

I remember saying that exact thing with the Q40's about 10 pages back... xD

The thing about the XB500 is that the stores that sell them believe they're worth MSRP. They're definitely not worth more than $30 in my opinion if someone plans on listening to anything other than EDM because their midrange made me literally rip them off my head. I'm quite interested in the Q40. I remember they were a major FOTM when I joined.

And yet, there are plenty of 13 year olds running around with Beat Studios. At least the Ultrasone 900s are more than worth it, the headphones that all the people with Beats should have bought for their money :)

And how many do you think bought them with their own money? I understand your point but I think it's way too much for a 13 year old. :)

Yep ahaha went back to page 18 and saw it.

Honestly, Q40s or even the M50s would suffice IMO ( they sounded pretty nice with EDM, so I'd imagine that they sound good with Dubstep aswell).

M50s are 107$ on amazon right now. Solid price IMO.
