Well spoken.
The word "Best" is subjective, and every person out there have different opinions about what is "best" or not.

Well I mean...he's looking for advice. Personally I believe my MS1's do a great job for those genres (for a cheap budget), but other people may differ, but that is MY advice. At least give the guy some advice for Christ sake, and don't just shut him down. People are here to learn, and if it has to be through subjective stances, then so be it.

I'll agree to that! Good advice it is too! I'll gladly second that!

Mark me down for a big X2!

I suspect that the only way a person could ever say that MS-1 are "better" than RS-1 would be if they really, really like cheap plastic better than real wood!

Beyond that, I'm sure they're not even close to being in the same class of phones.

But as I agreed with soupermans' responce: "(for a cheap budget)" that MS-1 would be a good choice, especially with the slightly more subdued "classic" rock. But if it were "budget unlimited", as a diehard flaming Alessandro fan I would probably suggest taking a look at MS2i or MS-Pro, in addition to RS-1 and RS-2, but not necessarily GS1k without better insight into his/her listening preferences.

How much does the man really like his SR80's? I wouldn't go into suggesting Grado and Alessandro's left and right before we know he absolutely adores that type of sound sig. Perhaps he should experiment? Definitely and AKG could make those genres sing. I'd say an old K501 or something would be easy enough to grab hold of a pair, cheap enough to try out and decent enough to keep.

Classic rock is much more than modern day rock. Grado's, I feel, are for people who want to here crazy, face-melting guitar solos and feel that kick drum blow air through their hair. But for such a vocal-centric genre that can at times walk that line of utter delicacy, a headphone with a little more soul, as well as timidness might fare better.

If the AKG does it for you, go with an Xtreme K1000 with an Xtreme amplifier to give them bass beyond belief.

I completely agree. Really, there isn't enough info in the original post to make an intelligent recommendation. The reason I purchased my A900s is because I wanted something a little recessed. Certain genres of rock (in my case industrial and shoegaze) sound better with the vocals a bit farther back. I'm unsure about my next pair. I want to go either AKG, another pair of Beyers, or (gasp!) Sennheiser.

Is there a certain sound you're looking for? Bright/dark/middle? Forward/laid back/in between? Fun/analytical?

I can think of worse things in life than being "stuck" with a pair of Grado sr 80's!!! LOL!!!!! I have some sr 80's and they are great with Zeppelin etc,...

Of course, I don't have an unlimited budget..........

If you noticed in my post...I said a cheap solution. But I do agree that the poster must provide more information, but to write his post off and to end this thread so bluntly I feel is very un-head-fi.
