I've searched through the head-fi forums, but I am still undecided. It looks as though the Grado SR-60's are the best overall for the sub-100 price range. But these cans leak sound a lot, and would not be very practical for a lot of portable usage. I have been looking at the Sony MDR-D66SL Eggos, which look very good for home and portable use. I will be using these headphones without an amp and most of the time with my iPod. If anyone has used either of the headphones and would like to comment or reccomend something else, it would be much appreciated.

I'm sure the music that I listen to would influence a reccomendation. I like very atomospheric stuff like Broadcast to experimental music like Avey Tare and Panda Bear, the Books, to rock like Deerhoof, to the Decemberists.

Welcome to head-fi somasatellite, sorry about the wallet.

I would recommend the Sony V6s if you can find a pair. They are easily driven from anything, including your iPod, pretty comfortable, have better bass than the Eggos, and store very small also.

i'm sure that someone would pop in with an advice.. mine is that next time, try to title your thread in a way that other people that uses the search tab will find your thread and the opinions inside. something like:
"SR-60 / D66SL for: experimental, atmospheric, rock"
that way you also have a better chance to get better answers, as the right people will tend to enter the thread.

good day!

I'll second the recommendation for the V6s based on your needs. I can't compare them directly to the Eggos because I've never heard the Eggos, and UPS says my Grado SR60s only just arrived today...
