I am looking for the best headphone setup with a PS3, in terms of sound quality.
-I am looking for a setup that won't have any "white noise" or such.
-I also read that the PS3 supports 24bit or Hi-Def audio quality, but only can be heard through use of an HDMI 1.2a or better receiver.

-I have an HDMI 1080p Display and it has a headphone jack on the side of it,
I'm not sure of how to get a good setup using that jack.
So I have a couple questions.

1. For movies and gaming, should I get surround sound?
If yes, should I get an surround sound adapter with stereo phones?
or a 5.1/7.1 Headphone?

2. Which setup is better?
a.PS3 >-(HDMI Cable)->HDMI 1.2a(or better) Home Theater Receiver >-(Toslink Cable)-> Optical decoder>-(Cable depends on the headphones)-> Headphones

b.PS3 >-(HDMI Cable)->HDMI 1.2a(or better) Home Theater Receiver >-(Coaxial Cable)-> Amplifier>-(Cable depends on the headphones)-> Headphones

c.b.PS3 >-(HDMI Cable)->HDMI TV(has headphone jack on the side, no inbuilt audio)>-(Not sure which Cable)->Amplifier>-(Cable depends on the headphones)-> Headphones

d.PS3---Toslink---Mini Toslink Adapter---JVC---?---Headphone amp---DT880S
I got that setup from this thread

e. Something else that you can recommend...

3. For the HDMI cables how do these differ?(other than the obvious price aspect)
a. For only $22.10 each when QTY 50+ purchased - HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (22AWG) - 20ft (Gold Plated Connectors) | Professional 22AWG HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Male to Male Cables

b. Monster Cable -- M850 HDTV HDMI Cable

4. How can I use an headphone and a microphone with the PS3 at the same time?

Thanks

Generally, yes. I mean, they don't make multi channel soundtracks for nothing...but I've never heard of a good 5.1/7.1 headphone. I heard that this JVC decoder does a good job of converting various multichannel formats to stereo.

One is reasonably priced while the other isn't(edit: you already know this). The build quality of the Monster cable is probably better, but generally speaking, signals over HDMI won't degrade over shorter lengths.

You can set the PS3 to output voice communications over the speakers, which would be your headphones in this case, although I guess you'd have to look for something like a clip on microphone.
