Your advice is appreciated here!...I'm looking for some good full-size headphones that will work well with an iPod driven by a standard CMoy amp (Opamp2227). I mainly listen to Apple Lossless recordings of jazz, acoustic, and classical...but also like classic rock. My budget is $300 or less, and based on this, it seems that Grado SR325i may be the best choice, though I'd prefer something with better soundstage/imaging and comfort like the AKG K701's (from what I've heard...these require some pretty serious power to sound their best). I will also occasionally listen to the headphones on my Harman Kardon AVR525 home theater receiver.

BTW-I've listened to the Grado SR125's and thought they were wonderfully detailed, but wondered if something else would provide better imaging; also tried the Denon AHD2000's which were very nice, but a little too "canny" for my taste. I haven't listened to the Grado 325i's or the AKG K701's...my comments above are based only upon what I've researched online about these cans.

Thanks in advance for any help offered on this!

AD900? Lovely soundstage and imaging, imho. And one of, if not THE most, comfortable headphone around. Great highs and mids. The bass lacks a bit, however. But if you liked the K701 but want something that requires less of an amp, then the AD900 sounds perfect for you.

If you are able check out some Beyerdynamic Dt990. The are the most comfortable cans you will wear and are well suited for the music you listed.

Thanks for the advice Alai, 1Time, tjohnusa, & Brighten. Actually, I've recently had a cash windfall (sort of) due to Xmas and a very generous family member. As a result, I'm now thinking of increasing the budget for the setup (thinking around $750 or less for everything). So, now...of course... I have more questions (sorry!). What do you guys think would be a good choice for a bedroom setup in this price range? I've heard that tube amps can work wonders for HP's, but was leaning towards solid state due to my complete inexperience with tubes (frankly I'm intimidated & am concerned about their fragility...don't know if this is justified...but I do have kids under age 5). Can you guys opine on a good combo of:
-Amp (SS or otherwise "kid-friendly")
-DAC (do I need this?)
-Interconnects
-Headphones

Once again, assuming that the main source will be my iPod Touch, and also assuming that this setup will need to suffice for many years to come. If this has all been previously discussed elsewhere on headfi, please direct me to the right place. Much Obliged!
