I'm looking for a 512mb flash player, with a line out so I can use my headphone amp. Is the iAudio 5 the best choice? I like the size, the interface, everything, is there anything else I should look at before deciding?

thanks

A few flash players have headphone out and line-in for recording off sources. You're probably confusing the line-in with a line-out.

I hadn't heard that before. Just went to the site. I don't see it.

What about the U2? It's smaller than the i5 and has a rechargeable battery...

I have a 1 GB i5 and love it, but you might check out the ones from iRiver also. They seem to have very decent output and good SQ.

They look like dials but they don't really rotate; they act like rocker switches. Each can be pressed left and right (or forward and back) and down. It works well enough but to be honest, I'd prefer a 4-way jog stick along the lines of the U2 or Karma. Just seems more intuitive when navigating the menus and switching tracks.

A lot of people amp through the headphone out. If it indeed makes your setup sound better than through just the headphone out by itself, there's no reason not to do it.

How is the SQ of the iAudio 5 without an amp?

In addition to how is the sound quality asked above, i was wondering do you need to install any software to transfer data files, or can you just plug in cables and have it recognize the player as a removable media?

I think, You don't need to install any software.
An other question:
What are the differences between the iAudio 5 and U2? The U2 is smaller, has an rechargeable battery, but has no clock. That was it?
