Hello!

I'm new to this whole "headphone thing" and I am eagerly looking forward to upgrade my PortaPros to something better. I usually listen to soundtracks and rock, on my Sansa Clip, unamped. I was thinking Grado SR60i or SR80i, but there may be a better alternative. Only requirement - Must be a "duel entry cord!" I will never buy a single entry one...they drive me crazy!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Never heard that one before.

In any case, I'm guessing the alessandro MS1s are going to be a big contender. In fact I don't know of many dual entry headphones in that price range other than grado/alessando models.

I see what you mean.
I think Grado SR60 is very good.. However it is very bright cans and some people don't like it..

I have the sr-80is playing rock straight out of my iphone and I love the sound. I would suggest them to anyone looking for an entry level headphone. They are great without an amp. The soundstage is not very big and the highs are a little bright but neither are enough to bother me.

Those people don't know what in the hell they are talking about.

This is what you want. Alessandro MS1. You will love them, like everyone does.

If you have some specific musical or cosmetic restraint (i.e. "I only listen to Tiesto ever" or "o yea lol my roomate hates my music lol wuts a closed one?") you should state that up front.

Thanks for all the replies!

Yeah, I am kinda torn between the MS1 and the SR80i. I mainly listen to stuff like: Depeche Mode, Incubus, Coldplay, and lots of James Newton Howard soundtracks. With the soundtracks I like a melancholy tone with good bass (brings out the string basses). With Depeche Mode and others, I like to hear crisp vocals with great bass for the beat.

Also, what are the default cushions that comes with the MS1 and SR80i

Sorry, way too many questions!

Nah, too much hassle. Plus that costs more. I actually wanted Grados to begin with, but I've seen a lot of other recommendations. As of this point, I'm still leaning toward them and Alessandros.

Erik's is a good idea though. And give your tastes and preferences, Grados don't stand out to me as the best option. You're limiting yourself severely by only asking for dual entry.

Make it a project, it won't be that hard or cost that much more. And you'll be all the more happy for it in the long run.

Why only dual entry cord if you don't mind me asking?

I personally prefer single sided cords as they're less prone to getting tangled... especially if the headphones are of portable variety. Plus it's much easier to tell left/right side cups on them (since the entry point is typically in the left).

i know a lot of people on head-fi are DIY and handy people, but there are some of us that prefer to just buy something and use it and not have to fiddle and modify the heck out of it.

SR80 used to come with bowls, but the sr80i comes with comfies i believe. MS1 also comes with comfies, but I like them with bowls.

Well, for me, I'm kinda crazy on symmetry and equilibrium. Something on one side has to be the same on the other side! Especially headphones. Yes, a bit OCD. I also like the look of two cords opposed to just one, I think it looks a lot better. Untill recently, I haven't even considered imbalance issues until I found users mentioning the side with the cord felt "heavier" therefore, creating a slight imbalance. Besides, I honestly don't think I could live with one cord...
