I love Robyn Hitchcock's cover of "More Than This" by Roxy Music.

Jonny Cash - Hurt
Easily for me. Cash has tons of fantastic covers, and I usually like Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam's covers of songs as well. Hurt is probably the best song I've ever heard, though. There's so much emotion put into it, unlike anything I've heard.

Probably my current favorite cover, either that or Funeral for a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding by Dream Theater, but Jeff Buckley changed and improved the song whereas Dream Theater changed an already awesome song to a different style IMO. I don't really know many covers though.

That'd be interesting to hear. He's coming to the DC area in January.

I must say that if you get into calling versions of standards covers, that opens a lot of music, such as John Coltrane's Favorite Things or the entire Miles Davis Porgy and Bess album.

For me, a recent contender is a-ha's "#9 Dream". This poor band gets no love in the States. I think it's a fantastic cover.

Also of note is Glen Campbell's "Grow Old With Me" (another Lennon cover). Glen really did this one justice, imo.
