Best complete turntable setups in the $1500-$2000 range?

Thanks for the recommendation.  I never thought about this combination before and have been leaning towards an RP6 with Exact 2 cart, but am definitely going to read up on these 2 components you mentioned.

I have the RP6 w/ Ortofon 2M Black.  Very happy.

Depending on your budget, I would definitely go with a bit lesser turntable and get a record cleaner, having clean vinyl will make a much bigger difference than going up a model of turntable or cartridge.

......This means generally that it shouldn't be made of MDF!.......

for the record the new $30,000 vpi classic and $9,500 sota are made of mdf. albeit with a thick aluminum underpinning for the plinth.
I have a beogram rx2 and Mitsubishi lt-22 that will outperform todays $1,000 tables. I would not buy one now though! no parts anymore. you could get a lp-12 or something is great. then you have a good table and spend the rest on a preamp, cartridge etc. just make sure it completely works. or know how to fix it. the more common ones should still have parts. since I am into modding things that Cambridge preamp is pretty darn good afterwards. in new stuff it won't get you too far. maybe $3,500.

Hello,
if you don't mind me asking, what phono pre amp do you use?
Thanks

Rega RP3 with Dynavector DV10X5. It's a legendary combination. It took me a while to get to the Dynavector cartridge, but once I did, I knew I didn't need to go any farther.

I've used a Cambridge Audio, and a Hagerman Bugle2, but have been happiest and settled on the Emotiva preamp.
