Ok, here's a good question! I am looking to get a pair of closed headphones that are comfortable for someone with fairly large ears. I have noticed in the past that some models don't accomodate larger ears and it ends up hurting a bit as the tough foam puts pressure on the ears (after listening for an extended period of time..)

Any suggestions for some phones that are guaranteed to fit comfortably AROUND the big ears and not on them?

Thanks!

Beyerdynamic DT770s. They don't touch my ears at all. If you've got a big head, you might want to wait for the new revision to come out with a longer, more comfortable headband. Should be available in another month or so.

Or get the new DT880s.

The Sony CD1700s. I'd argue they are the most comfortable closed headphones as well. Very big earcups (with a soft lining), and great headband system to lightly float them on your head. I love them, wish I never sold them.

Sony V6/7506 with the beyer pad mod, you can order velour pads for dt250 from beyerdynamic for ~$25.

jessica> CLOSED is the word.

Oh, and I wouldn't recommend the v6 with beyer pads. I mean, I'm assuming that the v6 with beyer pads is the same size as the dt250with beyer pads, and the beyer is too small if you have big ears.

At 6'3", with a large head and large ears, I found the Sony CD3K to be the most comfortable and best fitting for comfort around the ears. My current Audio-Technica W1000 cans are about to be put up for sale to pay for a set of the Sony's for just that reason.
