Can you folks help me in my search for a closed headphone? $300 - $500 range. I have a set of Shure SE530's that I love but want a set of full size cans too.

I’m looking for a set of cans that are very involving like my Shure SE530’s sound. I constantly find myself tapping my feet and singing along, much to dismay of my wife and son.

Thanks!

Yes, wood. That's why I ordered a pair of D5000's for the home...but its purely a luxury item...the D2000 is nearly identical.

Boot.. What do you think between the ATH-W5000, Denon AH-D5000 or Ultrasone PROline 750 for my new cans?

That's a good amount of votes for the D2000's. Is the only difference the wood between the 5000's? How much did you notice in the recabling of the cans? I'm guessing the money is better spent on cable than wood?

^ i think other people have said that a recabled D2000 is equal to or better than a D5000.

The D5000 comes with a better cable than the D2000. The copper in the D5000 is 7N pure while the D2000 is just advertised as "copper." So, at least from the Denon advertisements, the only two differences are the wooden earcups and the more pure copper cable.

There is a little more "pride of ownership" with the D5000 also as they do look a lot nicer than the D2000. The only person who can put a value upon that is you.

I have recabled my D5000's with AK[Zip]'s cable and it did offer a noticeable improvement over the stock cable.

Is everyone sure the D2000's or D5000's offer that involving/alive sound that I'm looking for?

I hate to keep sending these things back to online dealers as I have not found a local store who carries high end cans.

@OP: W5000 are very good cans too, but new they run closer to $700.
Personally I would be reluctant to buy a D5000, considering multiple reports of poor durability in some parts. (like the logo on the cups easily brushes off, screws falling off and whatnot)

And since it is/was FOTM, there are many of them around, if you wait some weeks I bet you'll be able to buy a pair for a discounted price on the FS boards.
