My friend is looking for some closed cans to use for gaming and watching movies. Probably some music too, I'm sure.

He prefer closed cans - around the ear. Also low impedance since he don't have a headphone-amp. Soundstage is also an important criteria, and also plenty of bass. He's a bass-head. That's why I suggested him to put a little more money into it, and go for the DT770's. Any suggestions on what he should buy? Maybe some Sennheiser's? In that case, which ones? He also had his eyes on Goldring DR150, but they are open...

im putting in a vote for the HD280 pros. decent bass, within budget, quality set of headphones.

I think either the DT770 or the A900 if he can stretch his budget a bit would be the best cans for him. The DT770 needs a decent amp to drive, though.

I have the A900's and I think they're perfect. However, he wants more noise cancelling phones, and also wants to have something different than me. Remember, there are four versions of the DT770. DT770-M, DT770Pro-250, DT770Pro-80 and DT770Pro-32. He would probably have to go for the 32-ohm-ones. The DT770-M's are designed for drummers and monitoring in noisy places. Are there btw any difference in sound between the Pro-models? Concidering the impedance-variation..

I just picked up a pair of dt770 from guitar center an hour ago. They wanted 200, but I told the salesman that I was just gonna buy them to try them out. He didn't like this and asked me why, I told him I could get them for $150 online, so he said that he would match the 150 if I would take them right there. I said thats fine and walked out with them.

My first impressions is that my mp3 player cannot drive them properly, but my audigy 2zs does a much better job. Bass is much better than my grado sr 60. I am pleased off the bat, sound stage is also much more present.

Good lesson to learn there.

In my experience, Guitar Center will pricematch 100% of the time (at least they have for me so far). Find the cheapest price you can on the internet for the product you are interested in, print it out, and bring it in to Guitar Center. More likely than not, they will match the price. Great store with a great policy.

I think I got a good deal from them though, because I was just price quoting the dt770's from the for sale section. I don't think I have ever seen a new pair for that cheap.

150 is as low as they go on ebay. Which ones did you buy? 250 Ohm? 80 Ohm? 32 Ohm?
