Hi Everybody,

I'm sitting here listening to classic rock on my new set up ( Macbook Pro Lossless HiFiMan EF2 with Denon D-200) and really enjoying it. Wow! I was just wondering what opinions there are for the best Rock & Roll Amp. Maybe I could put it on my Christmas list. Thanks, Chris.

If you are looking for a good setup for rock, I would pick the cans first (grados) and then a good amp to match it. Amps aren't generally considered to have a voice in the same way that cans do. Amps are much, much more linear than any headphone, and mostly amps will give you detail, instrument separation and the such. They are always limited by the cans, though. Usually, you pick the cans and then choose an amp to bring the best out of said cans.

Thanks for the input. I believe I'm on the right track. It's all about the dollars now. Later on.

Is there something missing or not right with your setup Chris? There are local meets in the sunshine state. Go to one or two & sample different brands and price points of amps and headphones. Go to the local meets forum to find one to attend.

Agree 100%. They can also take the edge off of some of those classic recordings and make them sound absolutely gorgeous.

As much as Singlepower has become the whipping boy around here lately I truly love what my old PPX3 did and my current MPX3 does to classic rock. The guitars sound very rich and full bodied while the vocals lose some of that vintage harshness that makes me cringe when I'm listening to solid state. Tubes definitely alter the sound but they do so in a very pleasing manner especially when spinning some classic rock.

Wadia Transport (apple lossless)>Valab dac>EF-1>Grado RS-2. I don't see how there can be a better combo for rock IMO, but this is the only setup I've ever had. I wish I could have tried the Grado RS-1.
