Disagree. The AD700 and MS-1 are both the best but for different reasons. For music only, the MS-1 would come up a the top. Add in movies/gaming the AD700 is a bit more versatile, while still performing excellent for music. Both of these cans beat out any of their competitors imo.

Well this is quite an ignorant thread... if you think any headphone is a universal "best", think again man. It's all relative.

I didn't like the MS-1 at all... actually, I preferred my $30 RX700 to the MS-1.

AD700s were here, ruining your thread. M50s are DQ-ed because acix mentioned them.

I donno, I have both and like them both. Sometimes I feel like listening to the AD700s, sometimes I feel like the MS1s. Usually its AD700s for jazz and classical, and MS1 for electronic and metal.

Sometimes you want bass (Thunderdome XV) and sometimes you don't (Keith Jarrett Trio).

And we haven't even gotten into closed cans!

That's true. But in that case, you want two or four sets of headphones for the optimal choices in sound signatures. Bassy/non-bassy, open/closed. That's two to four sets right there. Of course, there's plenty of people who have even more.

That's weird. Read your comment while listening to a song called "A Storm Is Coming."

Anyway, so you're saying MS1 > AD700 in bass? Looking for some open bassy cans at $100 right now. Anyone know what I should get?
