Due to my work environment, I'm pretty much forced to use earbuds, as I need something small and not too snug -- i.e. Etys -- so I can hear what's going on around me. I've enjoyed Sennheiser MX-500s paired with a Pana 570, but am looking for better buds, especially now that the wiring on the 500s has started to tear. Anyone found a better pair of buds?
Thanks!

Well i would have immediately recommended etys but you already said you can't use them. Therefore, the only regular ear buds that I would consider to be better than the senns are the sony 888s. If you aren't a basshead, you should like them. They have very clear treble, slightly recessed by accurate mids, and decent but subdued bass. I never a/b-ed these two together, but i have heard them separately at different times so maybe someone that heard them both together would be able to provide more insight.

I would also recommend the E888. I don't have the MX500 to compare with, but I have no problems with the bass, personally, but some others say that the bass is not as strong.

I have both the E888 in gold and silver. The gold one is better than the silver as its sound is slightly fuller and the bass is a little more apparent. If you do decide to get the E888, try looking for the gold version. I believe bluetin.com carries it at a very good price.

All in all, the E888 is my favourite pair of portable 'phones by far. I have the ER4P also, but due to its usability issues (microphonics, tips going in too deep), I don't really like it all that much.
