I'm about to pick up an iPod, and was wondering what the best canal phones were for it. Mainly I will be listening to hip-hop and rock. Thanks in adavance for any help.

Budget can mean many things on this board, what is your exact price range?

AH, someone else got there before me

I would also recommend those. They were my first "hi-fi" ish headphones and I loved them to death when I first got them. I guess you can find them for as cheap as $60 to $70 some places (or so I've heard), so that might be your best bet.

Im going to recommend against the e2c UNLESS you dont mind recessed highs above ~5khz. The e2c has recessed highs that many on this forum do not like. The ipod does not have an adjustable EQ and hence IMHO is not a good match for the 2c.

I like my e2c mated with my MuVo, but then again I dont mind the recessed highs. For those times where I want more treble, I boost the EQ at 16k and 4k.

Seeing quite a few comparisons of the shure e2c and sony hp-md33. md33 runs half as much (49.99 plus shipping) and some people seem to favor it - just a few options for ya.
You could also just opt for the easiest way out and buy sennheiser buds if you do not feel the need for isolation.
Couple other isolation options are the sony ex71 and panasonic hje50.
After running through these options myself - and not wanting to jump all the way up to shure - I opted to buy the md33s and mod them to tame the highs a bit. They should be here in a day or two.
The shures come with a nice warranty and good customer service as i understand it though.

MD33 are made by Sharp, not Sony.

Oops... thanks for the correction.... wow that graph really shows it. It drops off a cliff above 12K. I REALLY like the creative MuVo graphic EQ. The EQ slider at ~16K works perfectly with the e2c... IMHO
