Hello, I'm new here.

I recently got a Zmf Atticus and I would like to know what amp would work well with it. I currently have the Fostex HP-A7 amp/dac and an ol Fiio-E9.

The Atticus scales extremely well, and can be amp picky.

Through my old AGD R2R-11 this was IMHO the worst option. Bass slam wasnt that great, but it got loud enough.$400.00
Through any of my vintage receivers the volume was more than I can handle even at 40%. Bass slams well and tight. One can be found on eBay or C-List for around $300.00
Through a La Figaro 339 OTL there wasnt much difference from my receivers to be honest, except the decay got extended, making an already thick sounding headphone thicker. Can be bought for around $700.00
Through my GOTL The Atticus suddenly has a wide and deep stage, increased slam from the other options I've tried. $700.00-$1400.00

If none of those options appeal to you I suggest dropping an email to Zach at ZMF headphones and get his opinions.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Zach recommended the Beyerdynamic A20 for Atticus (which can be found used for around $300-400 if someone is selling them, they're a bit old and rare). It has an output impedance of 100 ohm, much different than most amps today that tend to be under 10 ohms, most good amps are close to zero. I thought that higher impedance amps actually reduce the bass, which I'm a bit apprehensive to try that amp out. Does atticus being so high impedance require an amp with a high output impedance?

Thats a tough question to answer as I have only experience with the options I listed. If Zach suggests the A20 then that would be at the top of my list.
