Best Album Ever?

The Beatles - Revolver

For me, that's the best line-up, start to finish, ever produced. Not a single weak track.

revolver > rubber soul/sgt. pepper's/abbey road

my favorite album of all time is probably: hum - you'd prefer an astronaut. i could care less as to how many copies it has sold, or whether me mentioning it gets any flack at all, but to me it is one of the most complete and perfect albums i have ever heard.

I don't know know what "best" means but I can deal with favourite.

Let It Be is a damn fine choice (although I'm partial to Tim on certain days and Pleased to Meet Me on others).

I'm also torn between London Calling and the self-titled Clash lps.

But I think at the end, my all-time faves (it's a tie): might just be Husker Du - New Day Rising and Wonder Stuff - 8 Legged Groove Machine.

that's a sweet album..one of my favorites too.. I was fortunate to hear Hum play right after it was released. Definately one of the best sets I've heard.. they played just about the whole album. DOWNWARD IS HEAVENWARD has really been growing on me as of late.. funny how older albums and reach back to you from the past.. probably got back to listening to it after buying the Centaur album.. have you heard Centaur yet? that's Matt Talbot's new band. Similar to Hum, but more minimalist.

my pick for best album is Husker Du's NEW DAY RISING. Well, it's my favorite album anyways. I know it's not as perfect as REVOLVER or DSOTM, but oh well.

i thought about this today.

i'd made a list of my top 5 favourites

1. the cure, disintegration
2. skinny puppy, last rights
3. bjork, homogenic
4. download, the eyes of stanley pain
5. aphex twin, i care because you do

this list isn't really about sound quality or anything.

i can appreciate stuff like the beatles and pink floyd, but for sheer personal enjoyment and emotional value, these 5 get my vote.

according to the play count in itunes, my favorite albums are:

1. 300 Percent Density by Candiria

2. A Society of People Named Elihu by Atom and His Package

3. Like Swimming by Morphine

i find it interesting that other stuff that i consider to be my favorites aren't played that often.

like others have said, current mood is really a factor...

I'm with stolencar care here. I don't know if this is the "best album ever" or whatever but it's certainly my favorite, and if I only could have one album this would be it.

Lagwagon - Let's Talk About Feelings

In no particular order, the top 5 to this point:

1. Radiohead - Kid A

2. Beck - Sea Change

3. Sigur Ros - ()

4. Paul Okenfold - Bunkka

5. The Tragically Hip - In Violet Light

List is _very_ subject to change. :)

My vote would go to the Beatle sgt. Pepper. I think it was one of my first albums if not it was the first album that I listen to from beginning to end. I could not tell you how many times I played it but it was enough to ware the grooves in the record forcing me to buy another copy.

Another one of my favorites:

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

absolutely brilliant....

i don't know about best... there's nothing objective about this and a latent tendency to elevate established work not out of true respect but out of "everybody says so" (DTSOTM anyone?)

it's similar on a smaller scale - my favourite's band "best" album is supposed to be 'zen arcade' - but is it really? or more to the point: do >I< really think so?

so my call goes for

new day rising - hüsker dü

and i'm the third to say so

ps: i'm surprised that my half-assed theory about "everybody says so" is practically nullified by the beatles fans here - whatever happened to the white album?
