hey dudes.

my dad is a pilot, and he commutes boston-seattle about every week and as a result needs some good isolation in his headphones. right now he's using an old pair of aiwa noise cancelling things he got at the sharper image many years ago, but they're uncomfortable and sound like crap. he probably doesn't want to spend more than $100~. what's a good headphone for this situation? has to be able to stay comfortable for 6~ hours.

You say he commutes -- does that mean he flies as a deadhead "civilian" passenger on that route? Are the 'phones for the cockpit or for use in the passenger cabin? If he's going to use the 'phones as a passenger, consider Etymotics ER-6i IEMS -- very portable, with deep insertion into the ear for excellent passive noise reduction. These will work well and fit within his price range.

I'm sure he doesn't want to use his huge pilot's headset in the cabin, people. But then again, mckickflip, show him the link to the beyer manufaktur pilot's headset site, and maybe he'll go Beyer after all. Otherwise, I agree with the low-end IEM suggestions: IEM's are practically made for air travel.

No.

Sorry, but you have to make it totally blatant you're joking, just in case!

Have you considered sony eggo d66sl, It got good sq, tight bass, doesn't leak sound, closed, doesn't depend on amp and very comfy. I used them at work for more than 6 hours a day. It's right on your budget and you can also get them cheaper in FS forum.
