I'm looking for a balanced IEM for listening to a wide range of music.

I'd like it to be detailed but not necessarily analytical and it's of the highest priority that it sounds good with every kind of music. I know this is very vague but right now i'm just trying to get some ideas. Thanks =)

Ortofon e-Q5 is a prominent contender among few BA IEMs.
Priced above 250 but MusicaAcoustics offers discounts for HEadfiers.
Check reviews for this and other BA on James444 BA thread

Huh, to me, what you described sounds exactly like the GR07, and it's only $150.  It works with every genre I've tried it with no sweat, and it's very balanced.  Of course, I haven't listened to anything any more high-end than that, so take that as you will.

I use it with classical, electronic, rock and pop music, and I've never felt any part of it was lacking for me.

Custom 3, SM2, EX700, MTP Gold, IE7, IE8 and GR8.

Going on what I have heard I 3rd the GR07 vote. I too listen to a very wide selection of music and prefer the GR07 over the higher I have owned including SM3, IE8, MTPC, and a few others.

Ok then the vsonics do look fantastic for my needs. Another one i've come across that's just in my budget is the ATH-CK10

Is there anyone who's heard both that could comment?

Ck10 is hard to find this days and is over priced too due to Expensive Japanese currency..
e-Q5 is a better option in my opinion is by this reviewer, e-Q5 is a very close call to Ck10 in terms of sound reproduction,
Check the review below

I think the eq-5 may be slightly too expensive for me. I can get the ck10 cheaper. I was also thinking of the DBA-02's but the build quality has really put me off.

They have a solid reputation. I'm australian by the way so that's in aussie dollars.

So i'm almost certain that if i get in ears i'll be getting ck10's. The reviews are super positive and the increased isolation and build quality over the gr07's has really won me over.

I'm about to reveal the extent of my noobiness with the next question but; Would there be a significant SQ difference if i bought full sized closed backs of a similar price?

Im awaiting my Gr07 right now, but I do have the Ck-10 and get some tips for them as the stock tips are pretty much horrible. I have some Complys on them and I really cant imagine a EIM sounding any better than what I have. The bass has increased but the clarity is all there too. Tips make a huge difference to the ck's, you can use shure triple tips, sony hybrids, monster triples and even decored shure olives. So without hearing the Gr07 yet, I give major thumbs up to the Ck-10.

I still like my sony tips real small. They arent all stiff, i like that.

id go for ck10.
