increase your budget and get a k701, hd650, or dt880. otherwise, you will just feel the need to upgrade in a few months.

OK, so they've been burning-in for about a day. I put them on just now and it was a high-quality jazz source and they sounded great! Much better than the PX200 and it really felt like I could hear where everything was coming from and that I was close to it. I'm not sure if it's the burning in, the source or my ears, but this is A LOT better than what I heard before. Now they are FAR better than the PX200 and I really doubt that they are defective.

Amps are for increasing the volume and depth of soundstage of your source. They're also used to "color" music as each amp brings it's own sound.

Some high impedance headphones and some sources with only line-out (as opposed to headphone jack) pretty much NEED an amp to be useful.

52 replies and no love for the AT AD900?

They also don't need an amp, and the fact that they're open makes them sound even better than the A900s.

Having around 200$ I'd buy Senns HD 580, replace their grills with HD600's and recable them. Just a cheaper and maybe better option than stock HD600's. SR225 didn't convince me because they are shiny in mids while having silky trebles. If SR325i's have birghter and more straightforward highs, I'd go with them but not as the only pair of headphones because of specific Grado sound presentation. The 325i's are more expensive, too.

Agreed, and I think 580's are way better than 595's.

I personally think if you go up one price point to the $300 range, you have alot more options when looking at headphones especially closed ear. Those seem to be poorly rated below the 200$ mark.

A900's don't need an amp, I wouldn't worry about buying one. Now go listen to some more music!
