Hi,

Anybody using a 12v gel battery to power their amp ? For HD650s ? I've recently discovered how good amps can sound using a gel battery so now I'm wondering if there are any 12v amps out there that can drive HD650s. I'm quite happy to build it myself if needs be. As I already have the 12v battery, I'd rather not buy a 24V one.

So if anyone can recommend a 12v amp for HD650s, please let me know. Thanks.

Tom

Is there any specific reason you want to get a portable amp for the HD650's? I ask that because they're not the most suitable portable headphones and would benefit much more from a dedicated full-size/transportable home amp.

Hi,

I don't particularly care about portable - I won't be carrying the 12V gel battery with me  But an amp designed for single rail 12V will be best with a battery like an Optima - the purest power source I've yet discovered.

I'm looking at the Mini3 because so far that's all I've found that will run 12v and people say sounds good with HD650s

The Mini³ Portable Stereo Headphone Amplifier

Any other suggestions/options ?

Thanks !

Maybe a lisa 3? However the bass boost gotta be as low for the hd650 to sound good

Most if not all 24v amps would probably work at 12v also. Please ask the manufacturer to make sure, but op-amp based amps that use 24v will most likely work at 12v as well. It might expand your options.
