SportaJoe, was kind enough to post the Rite Aid sale on the Philips HP 170's going on right now- only $9.99. As many have seen reviews here discussing their merits at $20, this makes it a no brainer. Still in initial tests here, but I can say already these are fine phones for their price. Run to the stores now!

On my fourth CD. These remind me so much of my first KSC-35's experience, in the I can't believe how well these sound for the price way.

I guess there's a could they build them any cheaper connection too!

Nice dual volume knobs. Get these drivers matched to .00001 db.

Been listening to female vocalists. This midrange isn't bad at all.

As a founding member of Team HP170, I can honestly say that they sound great even at twice the price!! (i.e, what I paid for them.)

I don't think it works, that's why hardly any phones have them.

Doubt they will be set on anything but max here.

I was able to pick up some HP170s for $10 at my local Riteaid. You need to have a Riteaid card to get them for half price.

I've just started listening to them and so far they sound surprisingly good for "$20" headphones. Highs are a bit harsh at the moment (not broken in) but the overall sound is quite nice.

No it's a free card, I think all they want is your phone number and address to get one.

The first time she rang up my order the headphones were $19 so I had her scan the card and it went down to $9. Maybe different stores require it and others don't.

A seriously good buy for $10, though.

I've written enough about them for one lifetime, though, I think.

blessingx,

Do you still have the packaging? There's some explanation on there about what the mono switch is for -- listening to some kind of broadcast or something. I threw my packaging away and I've been curious ever since what exactly it said.

Hey Davie, the exact quote (in bold) is-

"L/R volume control and
Mono-stereo switch for
NICAM broadcasts"

Guess the dual volume control mystery is also solved. As for NICAM, all your answers can be found here.
