Any wrestling fans hear of this tragedy/horror?

They paid tribute to him last night, then today I find out that it was him who murdered his wife and son, then hung himself..

Pretty disturbing, didnt think someone like him would do that.

How could someone do this? That guy must have been sick! They think steroids may have had something to do with it.

I've been a wrestling for my entire life (47 years). And yes, I knew long ago it's a mans soap opera.

The fact that a wrestler strangled his wife, smothered his son, and then hung himself is surprising yet not totally mind-blowing. Remember the Von Erich family? Yes as a fan it took me by surprise that it was Chris Benoit, but then again, other than the character on the screen what do we really know about these people? The WWE is demanding, and with the creative control McMahon has deciding the fate of these wrestlers and the pressure of being on the road for 250+ days risking injury can make a person crack. Who knows, maybe Chris was upset because he got "drafted" to the lowest form of the WWE - ECW. The work ethic needed to keep up a persona by taking steroids (or not) and working out to look like these wrestlers do is brutal. Boy how the industry has changed. When I was a kid watching wrestling, most of the wrestlers looked like they came from a beer hall. Now they're entorely ripped, at least the top shelf ones.

The Benoits have had problems in the past. His wife filed for a divorce years ago citing irreconcileable differences and a "cruel" relationship but then pulled everything out of the courts.

McMahon made a huge mistake running the tribute without first finding out the whole story.

I was a die-hard Benoit fan back in his WCW days. It's a shame what happened. I blame WWF/WWE because they never let him display his talent. =T

Because (according to various sources), since the WWF/WWE is entertainemnt, Chris, as good of a wrestler for the WWE that he was, his ability to be in front of the camera was weak, and McMahon and the creative behind the scenes people believe the top notch "champion" wrestlers need to be able to display a level of character in front of the camera that Chris never really did. He always seemd a down-to-earth work hard wrestler, and us fans appreciated his work ethic towards his craft.

Yes and no. To his peers, his death would be devastating, and I assume they would have wanted to pay tribute to their peer and friend. Of course, knowing the details now, it seems very ill-conceived to run a 3 hour tribute to a murderer, but at the time it may have seemed appropriate.

"The WWE is demanding" you say? So that gives this reprobate subhuman the right to murder his CHILD and his wife???!!! With all his millions, he could have walked away from it all. I'd even break my contract if it meant having my sanity. Family comes first.

I was NOT justifying anything he did. There's no excuse for murder (unless of course it is true self-defense).

Wer're talking about the human species, and one human possibly under the influence of steroids. Even if there is no substance abuse, human beings don't handle everything the same. Just because you and I know how to keep our emotions in check and not crack, some people do in fact crack.

They just found it(the juice) in his house...

They found steroids in his house...who cares? Steroids aren't LSD, jesus. He did this of his own free will.

I'm deeply saddened...I've been watching Benoit since very early in his career. The guy always was completely business and unemotional, I'm not sure why it would be less suprising that he did this versus some other wrestler.

He didn't have the personality to be the biggest WWE star, but he certainly got a fair break...he was world champion at least once that I recall. He paid his dues for years and was ultimately very successful.

Deeply disturbing and sad that this happened.
