Hello people.

I have been reading many forums on Head-Fi for quite some time now, although, this is my first post.

I am a happy owner of sennheiser's hd 800s and i've been using these with my Canor TP 10 amplifier, Musical Fidelity MX-DAC connected to my computer via usb. The overall sound of this humble system does not dissapoint me, but i've been looking for a major upgrade. I am not really into tubes (nevertheless, i know that the 800s sound better with tubes to many people) so a solid state amp is my priority.

I would like to ask the wonderful people on this website if any of you have tried the combo HD800s + Benchmark HPA4 or HD800s + Luxman P750u and how did these combinations sound to you? What are the reasons to prefer the first combo over the second, or the opposite? Also, which one of these two amps deals with the treble peak (almost sibilance in some recordings) of the 800s better?

Additionally, if any of you has any other solid state amp, withing the price range of HPA4 and P750u, to recommend for the 800s, i will be really interested to know.

Thanks a lot in advance for your replies.

As an owner of 750u, I’m very happy with it using Hd600 and D7000. Japanese amps are good for low impedance headphone up to 300ohm (as suggested from the forum). I don’t know benchmark but Moon 430HA isn’t good for D7000. Someone said HD 800s needs tube amp to sound “vivid “. Hope it helps.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. Although, I did not buy either of these amps. I got an EAR HP4. Indeed the tubes are what the 800s need.
