Hi,

I have been battling for a number of weeks now with Windows XP home being unable to recognise the Benchmark USB DAC 1 as an "Unrecognized device" Error code 20.

Has anyone else had a problem with connecting the same device to a home computer running XP home? I also tried XP Professional on a laptop and when connecting the Benchmark USB DAC1, the screen just turned an extremely dark colour (as if the brightness was turned way down) - any attempts to increase the brightness on the screen proved fruitless.

I am quite frustrated by this, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your screen brightness changed after you plugged the DAC in, then there is a fault with the DAC or the USB cable. Are you going straight from the DAC to the PC, or are you using a USB hub? If you not using a hub, then XP will recognise a properly working DAC1.
Best contact Benchmark. You need the DAC replaced.

Thanks for your quick response Herandu!!

I am going straight from the DAC to the USB port in the back of my desktop computer.

What was interesting was that another computer that I used that was running Windows 98, correctly recognized the DAC1.

I am thinking that it may be a Windows XP issue, but I am at a loss as to what to do. I would like to think that the DAC1 would work without any issues on an XP computer.
