Hi, I have an iPod video, and am wondering what headphones would be good for my situation. I am considering the Philips 5500 Noise canceling headphones. They look pretty good, but I haven't heard much about them. I am looking for some headphones that go preferably behind the ear, and are noise canceling, at least to the point of not getting drowned out on airplanes, but preferably being able to mow the lawn while using them, if that's possible. I am also looking for under the $100 mark.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Yea behind the neck and noise canceling dont seem to go well together

Check out sennheiser hd280

Also check out IEMS: Some brands being Shure, Etymotic Reserach, Ultimate Ears, Westone, and more

Street-stlye ain't quite hi-fi. Hell I haven't seen a pair of street stlyes above $50. (unless you count the Ultrasone iCans)

Anyhow you should look into the Koss SportaPro or PortaPro models, both with warmer bass and a good clean sound. And the Philips
SHS391 because they are a dirt $10 and they sound very, very, very good.

Avoid noise cancelling headphones. If you need something closed for $100 look into the HD280 which has very very very good isolation and good sound for the price.

This is an interesting statement. How does one equate street style phones not being hi-fi? I have the iGrado phones and they do, imo, qualify as hi-fi. Mind you they are not on par with my 325is but they sure as heck sound mighty darn fine.

To the op, I would have to recommend the AKG K81DJs over the 280 pro. I have owned both and to me the 81DJs are a bit better suited for your application.

To be clearer if you can't understand these messages:

-you don't want noise cancellation (an active electronic process), you just want isolation (blocking out noise simply by being closed)

-the only street style headphones that are considered acceptable around here are the SportaPro, iGrado, and Ultrasone i-Cans, all of which are open, I believe-- that is, they won't block out any sound. I vaguely remember some Audio Technica streetstyle as well, but can't recall which model.

--so, you'll probably want to consider either normal headphones or IEMs if you really don't want anything over your head. For lawn mowing I'd say go straight to an IEM and protect your hearing.

igrado=sr60 with new body

By streetstyle i think he means clips, behind neck, earbuds, stuff you see people wearing on the street.

Basically stuff that younger people where and doesnt look out of the ordinary (wearing darth beyers down the street)

Exactly, they don't because they aren't hi-fi.

Wow, thanks for all the advice, so if I understand correctly I want IEM headphones that are not open, so that they are noise isolating instead of using some electronic device to filter out noise. Based on the suggestions, the Akg K81DJ headphones, are some of the best in my price range, because of their isolation. Are there any others that are behind the ear that are closed that you know of, or is my best bet to go with a more traditional style?

Thanks again for all the help,
