Hello All!

I was pretty heavy in the headphone scene about 3 years ago on these forums. I learned a lot and got my first set of quality headphones - Audio Technica ATH-A500. I've used these headphones almost every day for over 3 years and they are still going strong! I even had some of my friends listen to what "true" headphones are supposed to sound like and one of my friends bought his own pair of A500's!

The reason I stopped buying headphone stuff was due to money. I was in college at the time, but now that college education is paying off and I have a job

I love my A500's, even though the black headphone cloth is starting to come undone. I bought the A500's so I wouldn't need an amp, but I'm now interested in finding an amp. I know most of the good amps cost a couple hundred. I am looking for something for less than $150. If that's not doable or advisable and I should spend more LMK.

I want the amp to last me through a few more pairs of headphones if I get some more in the future(which I probably will, but I'm not sure when). I can always upgrade in the future, but I want a good starter amp. I listen to most of my music and use my headphones out of my Audigy 2 on my computer, so that's what the amp will be plugged into.

ORRRRRR

Should I upgrade my headphones?? ATH-AD900's maybe?? lol idk!

What do you guys have in mind??

Thanks!!

To be honest I found barely any improvement from my AV receiver to the Xin SM 3 to the Gilmore Lite w/ DPS with my A700s, so my advice would be not to spend so much on an amp for the Ax00 line. Not sure about the ADx00. The only difference was a slight change in clarity from the AVR to SM3.

I think you need to puck up a new pair of headphone first. I suggest something that will benfit from an amp, maybe some dt880's/990's. There are so many choices, so make sure to read a lot of reviews.

Ya, I was doing some reading last night and think I'll upgrade first and then get an amp. Probably move up to A900's.

Thanks!
