Ah, well, then I'll revise my statement to only include the 5xxx series... They objectively tested better than the DVP-642 on the Secrets DVD Benchmark review. But, as hciman77 says, these cheap Philips players have some reliability problems.

This guy did some nice comparisons between the DVP-642, 3040, 5140, and 5960 if anyone's interested.

How about a Tivoli CDP? Nice to look at, pretty good sound, and a nice small footprint. I've had no problems with my unit.
