anyone know about these??? you can get one on ebay sealed for around 219.00 plus shipping from reputable dealers. At this point I don't own any beatles cds and this looks like it could be a good way to get all at once, any thoughts, good deal, sound quality, come on guys, I know there are some beatles fans around here, lets hear from you on this one.......

sorry mods, just noticed I put this in the members lounge, if you guys feel it is out of place here, feel free to move it to the music forum if necessary.

If you want to get into the music, don't go for boxed sets. It's way too much music all at once and you grow tired of it easily.
Go one CD at a time instead. The earlier Rock'n Roll albums are very much different than the later stuff, almost like a different band altogether. I'd say the Rubber Soul album is the first album of the new era.
If you're Beatles virgin and know only the biggest hits, it could be a nice path to start with the first album Please Please Me and get the next successive album a month after and so on. This way you understand how the Beatles and rock music in general progressed.

If you like collecting things, by all means I'm not discouraging you from getting the boxed set.

As far as sound quality goes, most everybody agrees that the Beatles CDs are poorly remastered.

I'm still hoping of a remastered version of the complete Beatles on SACD ala Rolling Stones...

thanks jopi, I am familiar with the beatles musical progression and their history, thanks for the advice but unfortunately I am one of those weirdo completists and I know eventually I would end up with all their albums anyway so I thought why not all at once. However I do not know anyone who has bought this particular set and I don't know which cd releases it includes, I mean if they were the original 1980's releases I would pass on it for sure. I agree after hearing some of the cds at the store they are definitely not the quality of today's releases but I would be satisfied with a somewhat inferior (compared to sacd) recording just to have in my possession what has to be considered one of the greatest catalogs in music history......

Some of the guys on the Phonogram list discussed this set and the concenses was that unless you collect Beatles, there are better choices - but this is not to say that the recordings were bad, just not the best. Some bought it for the box and then put there own (ie better) sets together, but that takes the collector value away.

I'm not personally aquanted with the set (and not really big on the Beatles), just passing on what I've read from ears I trust.

YMMV

thanks ar, I guess I'll have to think about this one before buying, thats why I love this forum, not only do people help you spend an enormous amount of money, they can also help you save some, unfortunately that happens far less frequently!!!!!

Why not look into the '62-'66 and '67-'70 2cd sets? I think those are a great way to get introduced into the Beatles and start buying single albums once you get acquainted with those sets.

the quality of the beatles discs varies, although i think for early redbook they are encoded pretty well. the standouts being "abbey road", "the white album" and the red and blue collections. also, the "anthology" cd's have some well done pcm versions of alternate song takes.

My brother has the box set. If you want all the Beatles albums at once, and/or are a collector, it's a nice item. I'm not aware that the CD's contained inside are any different from those which can be purchased at Best Buy (ie. not remastered or given to any other special treatment).

I would tend to agree that, if you're not already a big fan, you might make a better purchase to spend $40.00 on the Red & Blue compiliation albums. From there, you can make a decision about which period's music you prefer (they are quite different).

Oh, and by the way, if you ever see the CD SINGLES collection, please let me know.
