I'm looking for more or less complete Beatles discography in CD format. I say "more or less" because I'm mostly interested in the studio albums, but I wouldn't mind if the set came with EPs, etc. I know there's the Beatles Anthology DVD set, but does that come with albums? And there's that 1988 boxed set, but I don't know if that's any good. Any ideas?

Any particular reason you want it to be a boxed set of studio albums? Cos buying the albums individually wont be that hard for a band like the Beatles, and you can get 'em for real cheap, and even be able to find some of the better mastered versions if you look hard enough. IMO box sets are only good for the extras, unless its like a remastered box set with decent SQ.

I suppose you're right. I mean, it's only 7 albums, right? I figured it might be cheaper to get them at a go. Is it?

It's 13 albums, including Magical Mystery Tour. 12 if you exclude the bat**** awful Yellow Submarine (which you should stay far away from). Honestly, some of their early material is blog standard 60's rock and not exactly worth getting. And some of their albums individually is realy really cheap, as a whole I think getting their albums one by one is cheaper than in a box set.

More like 13.

1. Please Please Me - The Beatles
2. With the Beatles - The Beatles
3. A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles
4. Beatles for Sale - The Beatles
5. Help! - The Beatles
6. Rubber Soul - The Beatles
7. Revolver - The Beatles
8. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
9. Magical Mystery Tour - The Beatles
10. The Beatles (The White Album) - The Beatles
11. Yellow Submarine - The Beatles
12. Abbey Road - The Beatles
13. Let It Be - The Beatles

The soundtracks are made up mostly of material available on the other albums, so that reduces the total to 11. Personally, I have no interest in anything before Rubber Soul.
That leaves me with 6 to buy when the remasters come out.

the mono box set released last year is considered by many the best currently available set of the fab four's work. unfortunately this has bred many bogus sets. to be sure you're getting the real deal it makes sense to deal with reputable retailers. since this set, iirc, is limited the prices often were no bargain (of course one could argue that in many respects even at the full retail price of $260 usd (or $20/disc) it's a terrific deal). i just came across by far the best deal i've seen from a source i'd definitely trust. at 60% off the retail price, ie. <$120, with free shipping !. at these prices they may not last long (ps  i do not have any affiliation with B&N). happy holidays, beatles fans!
