I have just finished watching this amazing documentary. What can I say? Very well shot and cudos to BBC for making all these amazing filming. Its unbelievable how a documentary about wildlife can create a huge range of emotions from laughter and admiration for some species to sadness and alert about extinct species and pollution. Highly recommended!

Um, I believe it's been on Discovery for a while. But yes I agree it's awesome stuff. We need to save what we got.

If you can try to catch the BBC version which is narrated by David Attenborough. Not to take anything away from Weaver, but Attenborough's narration is simply out of this world and makes the episodes THAT much more enjoyable

One of the main reasons why Discovery HD is THE channel for great HD programming. Those helicopter viewpoints are quite astounding.

A fantastic series. I think that this was the first programme transmitted by the BBC in HD.

Just saw clips from both versions and I wholeheartedly agree. If you ever get the series on DVD or HD-DVD, try to get the BBC (UK) one, not the Discovery (US). Attenborough is classic; grew up watching some of his wildlife documentaries and particularly remember the African Savannah ones.

Planet Earth is amazing eye-candy (especially in HD), but that's about it (IMHO). as far as documentaries go, it's pretty shallow and inconsistent. i know it's attempting something "big," but to me it just falls flat in too many places.

i find both the script-writing and the editing to be dodgy... storylines will abruptly end, scenes will change without rhyme or reason, and when Sigourney Weaver's narration attempts to be witty, it just makes me cringe.

Is there any other documentary that you would suggest over it?
