The Battlefield 2 demo has been released as expected, but several major sites are being blocked from mirroring the file for 24 hours thanks to an exclusivity deal that EA and GameSpot have thrust upon them:
If you're getting this email it's because you have an association with GameSpy, X-Fire or Yahoo Games. This email is to inform you that GameSpot/GameCenter has been given a 24-hour World Premiere (exclusive if you will) time-frame to host the upcoming Battlefield 2 multiplayer demo. This time-frame will go into effect as soon as they post the demo for download. The release of the demo has yet to be confirmed, but rest assured it's coming very soon. I would ask that even if other third-party web sites distribute the demo, the 24-hour exclusive time-frame be respected by you and your sites. I will email all of you again when I know the exact time-frame you can make the demo available.
With chaos ensuing as people struggle to download the hottest demo of the year, blocking the most popular download sites from helping to distribute it is real smart.
So, here are mirror links from the aforementioned third-party web sites:
* 3D Downloads
* 3D Gamers
* 4Players
* Action Trip
* Computer Games.ro
* FileRush (BitTorrent)
* Fragland
* Gamershell
* GG Mania
* Worthplaying
Update: There's a new Battlefield 2 community update available to check out that has notes on account creation, possible texture problems with ATI's more recent Catalyst drivers, match recording, server hosting, and more.
Update #2: You can grab the Windows & Linux Dedicated Server install here.
Update #3: The Linux Dedicated Server has a problem:
A quick note to all of our community leaders and file partners. We inadvertently released an out-dated Linux version for today's Battlefield 2 Demo Server. It is imperative that you not make this available on your web sites and that you let people from your media outlets know not to host it for download or run demo servers with it. We will follow up early next week with a version that works.
