Anyone heard of Natasha Khan a.k.a "Bat for Lashes" .. ?
I heard about her at the beginning of the year and after watching a video of one of her gigs on the internet i got hooked, it was gripping, just wanted to keep watching and watching.. so i looked to see if she was touring, and yip, playing near me 3 days later so needless to say i bought tickets.
She's what UK music has been needing for a little while now, less of all these indie bands that sound the same, something that might last a little while longer. It's sort of atmospheric, mystical, maybe even spiritual and dark sounding music, it's hard to describe.. think Kate Bush and you'll have some idea.
The gig was nothing short of brilliant! it was the night of the lunar eclipse, too and it was at an old converted church so the venue, night and atmosphere was perfect for her. I was talking to her after the gig, she's really nice, got a presence about her, really cool! .. so i went to see her again a few months afterwards, the song "Sarah" live never fails.
Her debut album is called "Fur and Gold" and it's definitely worth a listen.
Anyway i'm forever thankful for her, not only for her talent but for leading me on to Joanna Newsom as well.. can't imagine where i'd be if i hadn't have been where i had to have been
