I've had my Etys for a while now, and while I really like them, it seems to me like their strong point is more mellow stuff with live instrumentation. I listen to a lot of electronic music, so I'm craving something with a little more low-end punch. Are there canalphones in a similar price range that would offer more bass while sacrificing as little accuracy as possible in other frequencies?

E500 and Triple.fi are way out of the Etymotic ER4P's price bracket. The UE10 Pro shouldn't even be considered.

From my experience the Altec Lansing iM716 has most of the performance of the ER4P but with a more fun sound signature and much more prominent yet tight low end.

Like astro mentions, use a bass boost/eq. My E4 have a small advantage with bass but my SuperMini with bass boost on/ER4P>S conversion is very satisfying for electronic music. This combo is very close to being as good as full size cans for my taste.

For the price you'd pay for another IEM you could be Xinified

If you like the ER4 detail you might be let down with other bassier IEMs.

I was in your exact situation...loved the sound, but the lack of bass started to wear on me with the ER4Ps. I realize it's not in the same price range (especially today, seems Etys price has dropped a lot), but e500s are just awesome. I find them just as detailed as the Etys (others disagree), and the music is way more musical (including full bass).

I've listened to the E500s, ER-4P, and ER-4S, and I can tell you that, the E500 does have more bass. However, I thought that the detail wasn't up to the level of the Etys. I would have to suggest the Weston UM2s for detail and bass combined. The key is to get the right tips to maximize the sound. That part is really dependent on your ears, and what fits the best though.

The UM2 may not be quite as detailed as the Etys, but it's definitely up there, and in my opinion, more defined that the Shures.

good luck

So the Westones and the e500s are both out of my price range, it seems.

How do the e4c's stack up? How much gain in bass vs loss in resolution would I get? What about the Altec Lansings, are they significantly worse?

I'd say the iM716 is 90-95% the clarity of the ER4P with more than enough bass to compensate.

I dare say it's the most well-balanced single-armature universal I've tried.

IMO, the E4c's lack sound without an amp.

I have mentioned a few times before that I am amazed by the bass quality on my ER-4S (a converted ER-4P). Very rich extension and tightness, but that's also because I mated my ER-4S with a warm and lively source which is the Rio Karma.

And I listened to a lot of elecronic music (Synthpop, Electro Indie, Industrial etc). And shamelessly I admit that with Nelly Furtado's Loose album, I was awashed with bass sweeps - man that album is so full of bass in every area. So what it means is that ER-4S will deliver perfectly when the songs demand bass.

If you have ER-4P, go for ER-4S upgrade and get Xin Supermini/Supermicro with bass boost
