Here's the matchup:

Sennheiser CX300 + USB Sound Blaster

vs

Head-Direct RE0 + HiFiMAN EF2A USB

If you guys had to take a guess, would the RE0+EF2A provide just as much concussion on the lower end as the CX300+USBSBLive gives me?

I've got the RE0+USBSBLive combo going on right now, and I'm pretty darn disappointed at how cold the lower end feels.

Thoughts?

You may not get enough bas for your taste with the RE0, but CX300 is pure crap in comparison, IMO. To stay in the same league, you should consider something like IE7 or IE8 if you want good bass.

Agreed on the CX300 = crap. The RE0 are my first "real" pair of IEMs and I'm absolutely loving the fact that I can actually hear my music! The RE0's make everything dance, sparkle and glisten! Love it! But my eardrums miss being abused by bass. :'(

Don't really have the budget for the IE7/8... yet. Wanted to see how far I could get w/ these RE0's first.

Figured I'd start w/ getting a "proper" amp (EF2A) and then sort out the headphones later.

I could flop down $170 for some IE7's or $170 for the EF2A. If I got the IE7's, I would power them w/ the SBLive amp I got and that just feels wrong.

If I got the EF2A now, I might get lucky and see a price drop on the IE8's in a bit and get them for a deal. Or maybe wait and see how the JVC FX700 turn out. Or see if the Turbine Pro's are any good.

Basically, there are too many potentially good IEM's coming out and potential price drops on existing for me to feel real comfortable ploppin' down a wad on any right now.

So you maybe just should enjoy your RE0

I recently acquired the IE8 and would now like to have an analytic phone like the RE0 to complement my Senn. But I cannot spend any more cash right now for audio stuff

so i guess I will just enjoy my recently acquired IE8

For a warmer sound in that price range, you really can't go wrong with the Klipsch Image S4's.

I actually tried out the Image S4's and while I enjoyed the lower end, the higher end was murky at low volumes and irritating at high volumes. Stickin' w/ the RE0's as I already own those.
