I'm looking for some cans with a lot of bass. Not IEMs; I already have the Monster Turbines to suit my needs. I'm looking for either Supra-aural Circumaural (more like something in between?) but it has to have bass and portability.

I've been reading a lot about the AT ES-7 and the Denon D1001 and those seem to be what's recommended the most. My budget is under $120 (try to keep it under $100 if possible; the cheaper the better).

Also, how are the Shures? I'm really into the looks of the Shure SRH240 but I think something like the 440 will suit my needs? How do they stack up against the ES7 and 1001?

I've been totally out of the loop with headphones lately so I have no idea what's good these days.

Way too ugly. I need something of the looks of the ES7, D1001 or the Shures.

The ES7's are going to be best for your bass requirements. At this level i wouldn't recommend the Porta's, and the Denon's aren't exactly bass bins. Dare I mention the 'B' word.... no, but you might want to throw them in there for consideration.

Much as i loved my Denon's, lightweight, comfortable, the midrange could have been sharper, and the bass deeper.

I can't believe noone has said this....the AKG k81/518/518LE series.....very, VERY good deal for the low, low cost.

Was going to say this. However if you got a big head, don't bother getting these as these clamp and clamp hard.

Thanks for the replies so far. Now, it's pretty much a shootout between these models:

-AT ES-7
-JVC HA-RX700
-Sony XB300/500/700
-AKG K81
-AKG 518

I'm leaning more towards the ES7 and RX700. IIRC, there was a much Head-Fi hype around the RX700 which caused it to be sold out everywhere. Now, when I search on amazon or Buy.com, they have them in stock again! Is the hype over? Did JVC release a revision model which killed all the hype around it's best selling cans?

As for each of the Sony XB, they look great but the XB700 is ridiculously huge. How the bass stack up on each of them? Would I be better off getting a 500/700 and skip the idea of ever thinking about getting a XB300?

Also, it's still dead silent about the Shures SRH440 and 240.. Nobody tried them? Are they not bass-worthy to be put on my ears?

i wouldnt call the rx700 portable. they're pretty big. i mean they can definitely be driven via a portable source, but they're still big.

Right now, I'm feeling trigger happy with my Can shopping. I feel like getting the RX700 AND the XB500. Maybe RX700 for home listening and XB500 for my daily portable? ES7 or XB300/XB500 for my daily portable..

I've never heard of M-Audio.. How is the SQ and Bass? it's kinda out of my budget.. (I can get both RX700 and XB500!)

Still nothing on the Shures?

do you mind sound leakage? if not, the V-jays from Jays are very, very good and bassy. light, look quite nice too.
