I was not trolling, but I was very mistaken. I listened to Massive attack only at the time of posting this, and it was only Mezzanine
 
I have now tested them GR07 properly and they are just very bright earphones. I guess that happens when the drivers are so near your ears too. 
 
They most definitely are very unnatural compared to the H6. The H6 also has an amazing sound stage which is very close to my HD600.

I'm still using the original cable ;_; . Waiting for it to break so I can get a replacement. I'll probably go with a beats cable since they sell those at my local Apple store.

New pads arrived today.
The difference is even more dramatic than I thought. The existing ones sort of look like slightly off sausages. The outer side looks pretty similar though.

Awesome! Did they charge you for it? I compared my pads to your photos and mine still look new so I guess your old pads was a manufacturer's problem I guess?

No charge, under warranty.
I hope it was an isolated issue, just a bad batch of whatever the coating is at the factory that day.

The question at this point is do I attempt to treat the new ones with a leather protector of some sort? Or just hope for the best.

Hmm, I've worn them outside the house during daylight hours, but not left in the sun or anything.
The vast bulk of the time I'm wearing them I'm in a blacked out room, bathed in monitor glow.

Its probably a defect then. I've had mine for longer than you and the dye has only faded somewhat, but no discoloration.

These are the most comfortable cans I have EVER worn...seriously.  The leather is butter.  No issue with discoloration here.
 
They are a bit bright for me....I prefer HD 650's if that says anything....definitely prefer a darker signature....LOL.

That's quite a bit of discolouration! Something wrong there.

I'd be quite interested to hear these 'phones but the reports of them being a bit strong in the highs are putting me off a little. Are they quite pronounced?
