Hi guys , I need some advice..

I'm going to get my ps-1 balanced ( with the possibility of a single termination end cable too ).

Do I have to care about the quality of cable I choose for getting them balanced ?
Any advice on the cable to get ?

How many ps-1 balanced ( and happy..) are out there at the moment ?

Only thing I would suggest is you get a light, flexible cable. The Grado lab reference cable on mine is rather stiff and heavy which works for my application but might not for your's.

Boodi if you feel comfortable around a soldering iron at all you could do a very simple retermination. The stock cables on Grados are rather decent and if you dont want to change/improve anything aside from that which going balanced will do then I say stick with the stock cable and do a simple retermination. Oh and yes it is worth it. They gain that much needed control in the bottom-end.

I'm not so sure about that. I got a stock PS-1 cable from Biggie a couple years back when he upgraded the cables on his pair of PS-1's, I was not overly impressed in any way. Compared to a stock Senn 580 cable, it's slightly more detailed but more fatiguing with a harsher treble. I found that even plain old Cat-6 network cable was better except for weight & flexibility. Biggie has the Aural Thrills beryllium-copper cable on his PS-1 (single-ended) and I think it sounds great. As for other cables, I have no clue.

Yes, but if you are happy with the sound why go and change a good thing? When I had my balanced RS1s and RS2s as well as the PS1s and HP2s I have also recabled the only one out of the 4 I thought could benefit from a recable were the HP2s. Obviously this is a personal thing but I think one can be more then content with a stock cable for any number of reasons. More times then not a recable will be different, not necessarily better.

Wait, so you put a stock HD580 cable on a pair of PS1s or are you generalizing how it would sound based on what the HD580s sounded like with the stock cale? I can think of quite a few combinations that I liked with one phone but certainly not another.

One last thing, going balanced can also change your impression of a cable as well... its not a fair statement to say that a singled ended cable that is good will continue to be so when balanced.

Started with the PS-1 cable on my Senn 580, then tried both the Senn 580 & PS-1 cable on my Grado 225. I wish I had a PS-1...

EVERYONE that's passed hard time tweaking hd650 ( 600, 580 ) and system around their flaws should really have the opportunity to possess a pair of ps-1 , I whish it was possible - ps-1 provide solution to all faults of hd650 , and (much) more .

I assure you that beryllium-copper will sound 99% the same as copper... with that last 1% or so being comprised of beryllium, nickel, and likely some cobalt

Oh, and I would not recommend melting it and inhaling the fumes

Boodi>I just stuck with the current cable that came with the ps-1 and had it reterminated with xlr connections and had an adapter built for it so it could be used in single ended systems.

Before choosing the cable for my ps-1's I auditioned the interconnect versions. I would recommend getting a sheething thats very bendable if getting a new cable.

Biggie.
