I have my Denon 7000s running straight out of my Yamaha receiver, one of their higher end models. The sound is great, but I am thinking of getting a dedicated headphone amplifer, while still using my Yamaha's DAC. If I did, I'd want to go balanced. I'm thinking the Rudistor NX-33. Obviously I'll need to do a balanced recabling. Does anybody besides Lawton Audio do this for Denon? I'm sure Lawton does good work but the prices are quite high, and I want a 25-foot run, since my PC, where I sit a lot in the evening, is clear across the room from the audio equipment.

I'd love to know who else offers balanced recabling for Denons. Separately, I'd love to hear the experiences of others who may have done this with their 5000s or 7000s.

Thanks,
Brian

A balanced recabling of the Denons would be a snap.
First of all, they allready have a high quality nylon braided OFC cable 4 wire, Rt and grnd, Lt and grnd
Next, the Cable is four wire all the way from the drivers to the 6.3 plug.so you would only have to reterminate the 6.3mm end of the existing cable in a balanced configuration.

Thanks, I'm glad it's straightforward. I think I sort of get a little of what you're saying, but to rephrase my question...

I have no idea how to do anything in electronics. I don't even know how to change the oil in my car. I can barely hammer a nail and even then I screw it up half the time. So - is there any 3rd party service other than Lawton Audio who will recable my Denon 7000s into a balanced configuration?

Almost any of the DIY'ers can help you.. I would but my soldering skills are not the most steady. Headroom also does this as well. It's a pretty straight forward job. Just getting some nice 6.3mm ,or XLR, plugs. Whatever your amp needs, and a little soldering

I just did it last weekend. I bought a new RP010B so I re-terminate my Denon D7000. The cable internally have 2 independently wrap pair of wires. One is red and black for the right channel and the other is white and black for the left channel.

I ordered from Takefivemusic.com 3 sets of cryo-treated Vampire Wire XLR connectors (the other 2 set are for other headphones I have). The red and the white go to the pin number 2 in their corresponding right and left connector. The black wires go to pin 3 of the corresponding connector. Pin 1 is left empty.

If you want 25 feet then you need a full re-cable, In that case the only one I would recommend just because is the only one I have experience with is Alex from Apuresound.com

There is another cheaper option that I have heard is good but I have no first hand experience. that is Enigma Audio using their Oracle cable.

I think your best bet would be ordering the parts yourself and then just find an electronics/computer repair place and ask the repair tech to do the soldering for you. You can just reterminate the D7000 into a 4 pin xlr and then order another 4 pin + 10-20 ft of cable + adapters and make an extension. That will be a lot cheaper than any "professional" 25 foot cable. Any repair tech would happily do it for 20 bucks and it only takes 5 mins for all of it.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll have to figure out whether I want to just re-terminate, or do an entire recable. I can't imagine that complete recabling will make a real difference... the D7000 seems to have a solid cable already. Maybe I'll just buy new XLR terminations and have them installed locally as a couple of you suggested.

Sorry for replying until now boomy3555 I was out of town on business all this past week.
I really like the D7000 balanced. First of all having active positive and negative signals gave me a boost in db. Since now the voice coil in control by both signals I can tell the sound got more clear and defined. The sound stage expanded a little bit.

I am using the RP010B and I have never listen to music like this. I am re-discovering old recording and hearing in them things that I never notice before. At this moment IMO they sound better than my single ended DX1000 and Edition 9. Maybe if I balanced those two I will change my mind but for now I am enjoying my D7000 greatly.
