Hi,

I'm looking for some guidance on how to acquire balanced cables for my 650. From what I've been reading, my choices are:

1) Buy a commercial cable ($200-300)
2) Build one
3) Buy from a builder from the forums.

So, I'd like recommendations for option #2 & #3. Is it possible to get a balanced cable (4-Pin) for under $100? Is there guidance on how to build one? Any recommended forum builders?

Many Thanks,

Razor

Cardas sells DIY Senn plugs. They run about $32 for a pair. The part number is HPSC.

For 4pin XLR plugs Neutrik is your best and only option really. Their part number is NC4MX.

For wire the common DIYer choice is SPC (silver platted copper). Can be found nearly anywhere. Navships on ebay is a fairly common place for people to get it.

There are many people on the site that will gladly help you walk through building a cable (myself included, just shoot me a PM). There are a number of upfront costs to do so however. You could easily build the cable for $100 but you would already need to own a soldering iron, solder, and a few other items depending on how you want to finish the cable.

What is everything I need to get? I understand I need the HSPC plugs (2x).. then just one 4PIN XLR connector since I'm building this for the Little dot MK VI (4PIN). Can I take an existing XLR male/female cable and strip both ends of and replace the connectors? Does the HSPC plugs wire into the same cable on the other end without anything else?

I have soldering equipment and wire strippers, so ok there..
