It'd be a relatively simple thing to reterminate your dbs with a 4pin xlr, make up a 4pin to xlr and a 4pin to 1/4" adapter, and then head to a meet. Most meets have at least 1 balanced amp these days.
It's been a while since I owned a pair of dbs, but what I remember about them is that they'd probably benefit a lot from the additional speed and control you get from going balanced. You could start with something as inexpensive as a DIY balanced mini3 or headroom balanced desktop and get an idea fairly quickly as to how well it would work.
