I'm new to the forums here, so sorry for a lengthy first post.
I've owned a TubeMagic D1 for awhile now, but I've never had the best of luck with it. I bought it as an upgrade from my old pc sound cards. So now I have:
computer's spdif out -> TubeMagic -> Sennheiser HD555
The volume adjust only works for the headphone out on the front... but I guess this is the expected function of the amp. It's just inconvenient for anything using the rca jacks on the back (like small, unpowered speakers). I was hoping to upgrade to some better phones to take advantage of having a decent DAC, but now the left channel is suddenly extremely quiet in my headphones. I'm assuming something has gone wrong in the amp. I ruled out software problems since it does the exact same thing on two machines in both Linux and Windows. There is no change whether I listen through the tube or through direct. (By the way, has anyone compared the sound with and without the tube? I was hoping to do some comparisons once I got better headphones.)
Anyways, rather than spending time and money troubleshooting and fixing this amp, I wonder if I should hold off on buying headphones now and just get a better-recommended amp. Has anyone else had this experience with a similar amp? Anyone interested in a trade or in buying?
