hey,
Im a newb when it comes to headphones and I was wondering what are the best closed headphones for travel.
I mostly listen to hip-hop/rap, and i am willing to spend $100-$200.
And i dont really want to have a headphone that really need an amp (am having enough troubles picking out the cans, lol)
thanks!!!

Oh my goodness. Closed, ampless, under $200, there can only be...

The Bose TriPort! <- looks like some ppl don't understand sarcasm :/

The Sennheiser 25-II can be bought from HeadRoom and lots of other vendors. I think it sounds closer to the HD 600 more than the 595s or anything lower than the HD 580.

Another option is the Audio Technica A900.

For $200 I say go with the Sennheiser HD 25-1(aka HD 25, aka HD 25-1 II). I love 'em myself.

Geez.. If he does.. He would be at a loss.. I'm a noob and I know that Bose isn't worth the money.. (hopefully he gets something else.)

Disclaimer: I do not know if the statement above reflects on the quality of BOSE, I just know it sounds funny

Not the A900... those things look HUGE! And I don't think they isolate all that well.

If you do go with Bose (regardless of the Bose bashing), STAY AWAY from the Bose "Over-the-Ear" Triports. They are built very cheaply and the headband plastic cracks and breaks apart in no time at all. I have two pairs of them. Both were replaced by Bose due to the cracking problems! I have not used the replacements at all in fear of them cracking again. They had lowered the price on them since the time I bought mine about 2 to 3 years ago, but still DO NOT buy this model. This is not me Bose bashing BTW, it is true fact.
Mine cracked when I wore them to sleep a few times. The headband cracks easily.

With that said and out of the way,
I do highly recommend the BOSE "On-Ear" Triports for what you want (closed phones, no amp needed). I bought a set of these a few months ago and find that they are ideal for the low powered portables such as the IPOD's, Iriver's, Archo's Gmini's, etc. MP3 type players and Sony walkman radios. The bass response on these is phenomenal and the midrange and highs are not harsh and bright. Some may think the highs are a bit subdued, but in most cases, it balances out the harsh bright upper midrange and highs of the mini portable players! It is a synergistic match IMHO. For portable players use, this is one of the best headphones I have found.

Another headphone that sounds really good that meets your specified criteria is the Sony MDR-7506. It has a much brighter sound than the Bose "On-Ear" Triport and you might prefer that sound. It also has good deep bass presentation but nowhere near as sub-sonic bass capable as the Bose "On-Ear" Triport. If you fear being ridiculed by the Bose bashers for status sake, all I can say is, try them and if you don't like them, you can return them for a refund. No loss, no risk! Just remember the distinction between the "Over-the-Ear" Triport model and the "On-Ear" Triport. The "On-Ear" also sounds better than the older an cheaper "Over-the-Ear" model. Stay away from the "Over-the-Ear" model!

LOL at the attempt to bold the title.

Anyways, stay the hell away from BOSE, I'm not saying that they are bad, they're just overpriced for what they are really worth. For 100-200 USD, probably your best option is the Audio-Technica A900.

May I recommend the equation RP-21? They have incredible sound for their price (less than 100 though official retail is 150), and some of the tightest, strong bass in their class. Don't look so hot though.
