Prevention ! Regular little shocks act like a big one with time. I was planning to buy ibasso... terrified by this post.
Not experienced it myself. There must be thousands of units sold (over a million has read the DX-50 thread), I wonder how many people have actually had some kind of volume surge. Do you still own one? it's still in your sig'. I wouldn't agree that it sucks at all on 1.2.8, it sucks for the end user that Ibasso have learnt on the job, releasing a product before it was ready. Unfortunately this happens with a lot of things, for example new software releases and updates/upgrades. I waited till 1.2.8 before getting the DX-50.
I experienced this once on the DX50 very, very early on. Never since after 1000's hours of use. I find the DX50 to be a very musical player and will never get rid of it. I use IEM's and other phones, no problems. I have even left the 50 playing for days, to burn in a new headphone and after days of use, no change in the volume.
I loved the sound of the DX50 but the volume bug happened twice on me on 2 different DX50. Right now these bugs are the only thing preventing me from buying a DX90.
I'm not saying the DX90 has the volume bug, but based on my experience with two buggy DX50, it's hard for me to spend $400 on another potentially buggy ibasso.
Problem is the earlier issues with DX50 and VERY unstable firmware on release left sour tastes for iBasso in quite a few members mouths. I think if you weren't there from the start you won't understand, especially if you jumped onboard later, much later when it did virtually become stable, why wouldn't you think we're being harsh? I haven't had the volume bug happen on 1.2.8 and quite enjoy the unit , but only when amped to avoid the relay switch issue when powering up/down and because I personally feel Tralucent T1 gives the unit a nice SQ boost.
Problem is fixed, see my earlier posts about this, a page or two back. DX90 is nice, and never saw this issue, as far as I have read. ZX1 is my favorite player right now, just the perfect combination of UI, SQ, and convenience. A true gem.
Because you actually had to trigger it by pushing the volume buttons, it doesn't just happen sitting there, you must physically start the launch code be press the up/down button. It didn't just get stuck going up either, it could occurs going down, depending which volume direction you pressed.
