should i go for an av710 now (with the purchase of my a900's) or wait on it for a month or two and get an emu0404. right now i have an oem audigy 2

AV-710 without a headphone amp is not a good idea, I'd wait for the E-MU 0404, you can have it for $85 from Zemo..

i thought the a900's didn't really NEED to be amped though? anyone else's thoughts?

it's not a matter with a particular headphone, it's the way the card is designed, it's not meant to drive low impedance load such as headphones, any of them..

Yeah, there was already one guy complaining about A900+Chaintech without amp.
