Got around to installing my Chaintech AV-710 today, and that went without a hitch. Had everything set up for high-quality music withing 20 minutes, including the time to install the card.

However, when I tested playing DVDs using PowerDVD 5.0, with audio set to SPDIF out (it's connected to a Kenwood VR-715 receiver that handles DD/DTS decoding), it doesn't work - the player shows the disc as playing, but there's no video or sound. Trying to do anything in PowerDVD (stop, pause, exit, etc) will cause it to freeze, and then trying to close it again brings up the Windows "Program is not responding" dialog.

Changing to 2-channel mode in PowerDVD, and everything works. Except I don't get AC3 audio, of course...

Other video files which have AC3 audio (decoded using AC3Filter) also doesn't seem to work... either it plays in stereo, or there's no audio at all.

I was previously using the onboard Realtek ACL650 sound, also connected to the receiver via Toslink, and everything was fine... since my receiver/speakers are my computer speakers, and I use my computer to watch DVDs the majority of the time, I'd really like to be able to get AC3 passthrough working... I've already tried reinstalling PowerDVD, to no avail (though that was before I found out that it wasn't just PowerDVD screwing up, but rather all AC3 sources, so it wouldn't have mattered).

Anyone have any ideas?

It is. I've tried just about everything there is to try in terms of driver settings. Maybe I'll try the older drivers...

It was.

Anyway, after I got around to rebuilding my computer (mostly so I could install Windows on my new 74GB Raptor), I installed the 1.43d drivers, and now PowerDVD using SPDIF seems to work.
