You can get yourself an ohm adapter for the input which will give you more room for your volume selection (they are cheap).  Of course, you can also send it in for service under warranty. Mine does not have that imbalance at any setting. Just the pot not tracking properly which is a common problem with this type of pot at low settings.

I think mine is due to tracking problem too, just a bit sad that Auralic can't have a paid upgrade to the use of a stepped attenuator or relay based attenuator. The amp is fantastic beside this though! I am now lowering the digital volume on my computer to allow more room for the attenuator, which don't seem to be the best option for audiophiles

If you have to lower the digital volume no more than -6db it should have no effect on the sound. Anyone using dsp would have to lower their digital volume at least -3db to create headroom and that has no negative effect.

Actually I am using a Audio-gd NFB-1 DAC, where my only digital attenuation is from windows

I just ordered the MkII and hope it will arrive in the next couple of days. I will try to find a pair of Audeze lcd 2F or 3F to use with it.

I dont have a standalone dac at the moment. I will use the MkII togehter with my Cambridge Audio Stream magic 6 v2 which has a dac built in. How well do you guys the MkII will perform without a better standalone dac. I will of course get one in the future but as always, money talks =).

Cheers!

I was pairing my Taurus with the Vega DAC. It scaled well with the better DAC - I was previously using a Simaudio Moon 100D, a much lesser beast than the Vega. Taurus responded very well to a high quality DAC - SQ took a big lift in all areas.

The Vega scales beyond the Taurus very well also - I found the SQ took another leap upwards when I replaced my Taurus with the Simaudio 430HA and kept the Vega. I never really liked the Taurus all that much. Sound was good, but some niggles kept me from taking it into my audiophile bosom (no remote, volume will not zero, fiddly front panel buttons, cannot drive the HE6 properly).

Just my 2 cents - I found the Vega to be a much better DAC than the Taurus is an amp. Given the respective pricing this perhaps isn't very surprising. For me, the Vega is an endgame DAC, while the Taurus wasn't an endgame SS amp. The Simaudio 430HA is. YMMV.

If you want to take that stack to another level now put an ARIES in front of it.  It's amazing!

Foobar, JRiver, HQPlayer and most others all have the ability to lower the digital volume within the program settings. If you do the math you will understand that a change of -3 to -8db on your digital software volume would create no sound quality loss. I know there are some purists who are afraid of this but some people thought the earth was flat also. This is the digital age time to use digital solutions. All your music is digital. Anyone using any sort of dsp must do this anyway to create headroom for processing to avoid distortion.

Hello,

I'm trying to install the Vega driver 2.16 on a Windows 8.1 Bing system, with no luck. Tried several times, with several different options, also disabling driver certification enforcing, I'm always getting this message at the end of the install: "ERROR: pre-installation of C:\Program Files........ failed
run setup again
Installation failed"

Did anyone succeed in installing thise driver on "Windows 8.1 Bing" ?
Any well-known-trick I'm missing before I write to the Auralic support?

tnks

Just picked-up my T1s from a friend of mine who changed the connector to a 4 Pin XLR (Neutrik).  Also created an 1/4 adapter with the original T1 1/4 connector (Beyerdynamic also uses a Neutrik)  and a XLR female connector (Neutrik also), so I get the best of both worlds with my Auralic Taurus mkII.

So I plugged the new XLR into the mkII balanced mode and put on my "Go To" track/song # 7, "Broken train" from the album Midnite Vultures by Beck and .......         WOW !!!!!!!   Details galore, crisp and clear sound, no grainyness, the focus and depth are to die for.

That's the best sound description I can give for now.  If anyone who owns these babies is wondering about the balanced connector being worth it or not, well, I personally give it a big thumbs up.  The total cost including the labour came to approx. $40.00 CDN.  Worth every penny.  A few days ago I was contemplating selling the mk2 and I'm jubilant that I changed my mind.

The mk2 is simply outstanding.  I'm hearing the same music I've listened to for years sound completely different.  This experience can be resumed in one word:  Nirvana.

+1. I own the same combination and get the same results you mention. I think the T1's get a bad wrap as they can sound glorious with the right balanced setup.

If you really want to mess your trousers try the Simaudio 430HA fed from the Vega DAC. Warm, rich, detailed and very musical.

The Mk2 is a good amp. The 430HA is better (IMHO). Either produces happy listening.

owner of a new (used, but new for me) taurus mk.2 here. listening to he-6 tonight...the hd800 come out of the closet tomorrow...and then the th900 should get its shot over the weekend.

pretty impressed with the build quality and how well it matches my apple gear...also quite impressed at how cool the amp is despite it being class A and being on for the last 10 hours. though they advise not to, methinks i'll be stacking some gear on top...with space, of course.
