Please keep thinking that, because if you get the Owls, I'm sure that you will convince me to do the same thing.

Hmm, deep down inside i really want the owls. So forget what I said, go get'em!

Only if someone gives me a pair.

I have the Hawks. You kind of confirm that I should also have the Owls :)

NO he did not!

I got a pair of these today - the seller advertised as the nightowl but they were the nighthawk carbon - BNIB sealed. I am just breaking them in right now and they are a fun pair of headphones. I am just switching between my hifiman edition x and NH off my LG V30 as well as balanced off my cheap fiio q1 m2 / surface book and while they are fun headphones I think they will need some serious eq'ing. I will have to read through this thread to find out the eq settings you guys recommend.

Not everyone EQs them. Now that you know they are Nighthawks, you should check out the Nighthawk thread.

Hey golfinggino, I posted my EQ sets for both pads a couple pages back. However, this is only for the Nightowl. I don't own the Nighthawk. You can try my EQs, but they are obviously not going to sound correct with your NIghthawk.

EQ set to use with the ultrasuede pads:

Pre-Amplifying: - 2

50Hz: + 0.5
63Hz: + 0.5
80Hz: + 0.5
160Hz: - 0.5
200Hz: - 0.5
250Hz: - 0.5
315Hz: - 0.5
1.6kHz: + 0.5
2kHz: + 0.5
2.5kHz: + 0.5
3.15kHz: + 1
4kHz: + 1
5kHz: + 0.5
6.3kHz: + 0.5
10kHz: + 0.5
16kHz: + 0.5

EQ set to use with the pleather pads:

Pre-Amplifying: - 2

80Hz: - 0.5
100Hz: - 0.5
125Hz: - 1
160Hz - 1
200Hz: - 1
250Hz: - 1
315Hz: - 1
400Hz: - 1
500Hz: - 1
630Hz: - 0.5
1.6kHz: + 0.5
2kHz: + 0.5
2.5kHz: + 0.5
3.15kHz: + 1
4kHz: + 1
5kHz: + 1
6.3kHz: + 1
8kHz: + 0.5
10kHz: + 1
16kHz: + 1

Give it a try though. This will give you a good starting point.

sorry I thought I posted this in the nighthawk thread - anyway I already posted them for sale lol

Wow that was quick. I loved mine straight out of the box but they do recommend burning them in for 150 hours before they reach their final sound.

I would not own any headphones if I had to do all that. With all my gear I would need a big notebook to consult every time I wanted to listen to anything:)

I am in the smaller group of people who thinks that no headphone sounds correct without an EQ being used on it. I have never owned a headphone to date that I have not put an equalizer on. That is the only way I can make things sound exactly right. Each time I get a headphone though, and post up my EQ for it in its thread, I always get messages from other owners telling me how much better the headphone sounds when they use my EQ. :p

Hey golfinggino, you may want to hold off on selling it for a bit. The Nightowl and the Nighthawk have a solid burn in period. Both headphones will progress up to around 140-150 hours. Once you hit that point, they will be at their best sound they are capable of.

... and how exactly would I do this with multiple daps, and my PC .... using many iems, buds and headphones.... there would be no time to enjoy the music.

I've ordered the ES100 (thx whoever posted the info) which is a small bluetooth receiver. Going to try it with the NH (or NO if I get one). I have a couple of portables already...but want to try it. The Sony MDR-1ABT is comfy and works well...but the sound is so-so...and the B&W P7 wireless has great (or very good sound)..but they are not the most comfortable.

Es100 is awesome. Order a balanced hd700 cable from Amazon for your hawks.you can get one for like $40. Opens up soundstage a little and brings the mids forwsfo ever so slightly. It is awesome
