the Favorite here seems to be the M-Audio Revolution 7.1

it can be had for less than $100, it's not very good for games however, won't play DVD-A right now, though it's capable, you'll have to buy software in the future to play it, and the drivers are still young and buggy.

i might reccomend getting the latest drivers from creative, and follow what dd3mon says in this thread, about halfway down.

i'd keep the audigy for now, until a lot of these issues are fixed with the Revo. i had one, and it was so buggy and unworkable that i sold it. hopefully they fix it because it sounds awesome when it works.

you might also want to give the kX project drivers a try.

you will lose a lot of functions on the card, especially with gaming, but they sound great if you can figure out how to use them.

If your intention is to listen to music from analogue out, then the Revo doesn't have a bug there that I'm aware of.

Gaming is only slower when you run it with 3D sound. Stereo it's the same performance as other cards.

Movies and recording had issues before. Some issues with movies have been resolved. I'm not sure about recording via line-in though.

i just LOVE my Hercules Game Theater XP

here are some pics of it.. i coudln't attach it for some reason

its got like every I/O imaginable. and sounds nice. There aren't any outputs on the card itself. It has one jack thats pretty big. and it goes into this box. that does everything

http://home.cogeco.ca/~hathor.lan/DSC00263.jpg - front left (got my 1/4 to mini converter in there )

http://home.cogeco.ca/~hathor.lan/DSC00264.jpg - the back

http://home.cogeco.ca/~hathor.lan/DSC00266.jpg - that computer jack is where the cord that attaches itself to the computer comes in + more usb ports

This is my suggestion:

Keep Audigy2 because of its gaming speed --> very noticeable in every new game like Unreal2, GTA3, Matrix where EAXHD is used.

Wait for the upcoming Audigy3 to coincide with the Half-Life2 launch around September. It'll have EAX-X new version of EAX, much faster processing time and they've learnt from their mistakes of cheap DACs.

Gaming is my life so thats why Audigy2 is my only option. I want the best framerates etc. and the Revolution 7.1 is an insult to my benchmarks.

all i have to say (besides, "way to post in the right forum!!!!") is **** creative labs. way too overpriced for their own good, and they have a history of ****ty drivers (audigy 2 has nice drivers, though)

oh, and TBSC kicks ass
